The Guam Island Fiesta Tour (GIFT) is an admirable example of some of the grassroots educational programs available to our visitors. It's hard for us to imagine a better expression of the Håfa Adai spirit, and we think you'll agree.
Visit the Education page of this section of our website for information about other educational programs, such as the exchange program for international college students and diverse community programs supported by the Guam Visitors Bureau.
Chamorro Culture, Firsthand
Through GIFT, participants are introduced into homes of local families during one of the fiesta celebrations that happen year-round in each of Guam's 19 villages. Visitors are invited to participate in cultural activities like coconut husking, throwing talayas (or cast nets), drinking tuba (fermented coconut juice), barbecuing, and riding the powerful carabao water buffalo. Perhaps most delightfully, guests are treated to tables laden with authentic Chamorro cuisine.
Communities have used GIFT as an opportunity to share their culture with groups who likely would never get the opportunity to experience the hundreds of years of local tradition passed down by Guam's families.
