Honoring the Original Patron: The Fiesta of San Victor
In the bustling commercial hub of Tamuning, the community gathers for a second time in the summer to celebrate San Victor (Saint Victor). While the village is widely known for its massive Saint Anthony fiesta in June, July belongs to the parish's co-patron. This evening celebration holds a special place in the hearts of long-time Tamuning residents, honoring the very origins of their village's post-war spiritual community.
For visitors, attending the San Victor fiesta offers a slightly more localized experience compared to the massive June celebration. Set against the backdrop of Guam's busiest district, it is a beautiful testament to how the village remembers and honors its roots.
THE HISTORY OF THE CO-PATRON
The history of San Victor in Tamuning is a story of post-World War II reconstruction. Before Tamuning became the economic powerhouse it is today, it was an area of rapid resettlement for families rebuilding their lives after the devastation of the war. In 1946, the very first Catholic church built to serve this new community was named St. Victor's Chapel.
As the village grew and the church was later renamed to honor St. Anthony of Padua, the community refused to forget its foundation. St. Victor was officially retained as the co-patron of the parish. Today, the "Church of Saint Anthony and Saint Victor" stands as a symbol of both the village's initial post-war beginnings and its subsequent growth into a diverse, thriving municipality.
FIESTA TRADITIONS: EVENING DEVOTION AND FELLOWSHIP
Because this fiesta takes place at 6:00 PM in a highly urbanized area, it has a wonderfully vibrant, community-focused evening atmosphere.
The Evening Procession
As the sun begins to set over the commercial district, the faithful gather for the procession of San Victor. Walking near Chalan San Antonio, the event offers a striking contrast between the modern, fast-paced island economy and the enduring traditions of Catholic faith. It is a moment of peaceful reverence right in the middle of the island's busiest thoroughfare.
The Village "Gupot" (Party)
The "Gupot" for San Victor reflects the incredible diversity of modern Tamuning.

A Multicultural Feast: Just like the St. Anthony celebration, the fiesta table here is a true melting pot. You will find traditional CHamoru favorites like Kelaguen and Red Rice sitting side-by-side with Filipino staples like Pancit and Lumpia, reflecting the diverse families that call Tamuning home.
-
Community Reunion: Because it is the "second" fiesta of the summer for the parish, the gathering often feels like a special reunion for the core, long-standing families of the village who have been there since the days of the original St. Victor's Chapel. The atmosphere is warm, deeply welcoming, and filled with island hospitality.
