Waterfalls in Guam

Most people come to Guam for the beaches. But head inland, and you’ll find waterfalls, jungle trails, and amazing freshwater pools. It’s a side of the island that’s a little wilder, a little quieter, and well worth the detour.

From a quick dip or a half-day hike, Guam has something for every kind of explorer!

Tarzan Falls

What to Expect

Tarzan Falls is one of the most popular waterfalls on the island, and for good reason. It’s about a 45-minute to one-hour trek each way, with open paths and shaded jungle sections leading you to a cascading waterfall that flows into a calm freshwater pool.

It’s a great spot to cool off and take a break before heading back. Trail conditions can be muddy and slippery, especially after rain, so good shoes and a steady pace go a long way.

Priest’s Pools

A Unique Water Experience

Priest’s Pools is a little different from your typical waterfall. Instead of one main drop, you’ll find a series of natural pools that cascade down through the landscape.

Surrounded by rock formations and greenery, it’s a beautiful place to spend some time in the water. The site gets its name from the Spanish era, when priests were said to bathe here in the cool freshwater after arriving on the island. Like many freshwater spots in Guam, surfaces can be slick, so take your time and move carefully as you go.

San Carlos Falls

A Remote Jungle Escape

San Carlos Falls is one of Guam’s more remote waterfall experiences, hidden deep within the island’s central jungle.

The hike can take a couple of hours each way, with river crossings, dense vegetation, and uneven terrain along the route. But at the end, you’ll find a beautiful waterfall pouring into a deep, clear swimming hole, surrounded by thick and flourishing nature.

The trail is considered difficult and best suited for experienced hikers or those exploring with a guide.

Local Guides for Exploration

Boonie Stomping in Guam

Locals often refer to hiking in Guam as “boonie stomping,” which basically means trekking through the island’s more rugged terrain. While some routes are pretty easy to follow, others can be more challenging and change depending on weather conditions.

Exploring with a group like the Guam Boonie Stompers offers a safer, more guided way to experience these areas. On Saturdays, they offer public hikes to various waterfalls and other destinations for just $5. Check their Facebook page for more details.

Plan Your Visit

Go from hiking to exploring hidden freshwater spots, in Guam there’s more to do than just spend time on the beach. Whether you’re browsing places to stay or building out your itinerary, try to make time for at least one waterfall while you’re here.
