Guam’s run with the most fun is back on October 29th with a brand new racecourse! Don’t miss this exciting weekend of activities, awards, and cash prizes. Here’s what you should know:
This year’s event will debut a brand new racecourse.
Now in it’s 12th year, the 2017 Guam Ko’ko’ Half Marathon is moving to Guam’s capital village of Hagåtña. Runners will enjoy the beauty of running along the western shores of Hagåtña, Asan, and Piti and can afterwards explore one of Guam’s historical districts.
There are three different race distances.
If a half marathon is more than you’d like to run, perhaps the 10K or 5K run/walk options are more to your liking. All three courses start and finish at Chamorro Village with beautiful Hagåtña Bay as the backdrop. The racecourses are relatively flat and feature long stretches of peaceful and invigorating ocean views.
There will be aid and refreshments along the course.
There will be seven aid stations along the half marathon course and each station will offer water and sports beverages. There will also be six restrooms throughout the course, and plenty will be available at Chamorro Village. Sports drinks and water stations will also be available immediately after runners cross the finish line. After runners receive their finisher's medal, they can enjoy the post-race party where additional refreshments and offerings will be available.
The Guam Ko’ko’ Half Marathon was created for a serious cause.
Although the Guam Ko'ko' Half Marathon is a cheerful event, it also supports a very serious cause: to raise awareness for the Guam rail, Guam's flightless endemic and endangered bird, also known as the ko'ko’ bird. The Guam rail thrives in 17 zoos across the United States but the most exciting news is that the ko'ko' has been re-released into the wild with successful reproduction on Cocos Island, off the coast of Guam. Guam Visitors Bureau will continue supporting these efforts through the net proceeds of the Guam Ko'ko' Half Marathon.
The Ko’ko’ Kids Run is especially for kids ages 4 to 12.
Geared for kids ages 4 to 12, the popular Ko'ko' Kids Run will take place on Saturday, October 28th at Gov. Joseph F. Flores Memorial Park (Ypao Beach) in Tumon. Your kid(s) will love the excitement of the races and meeting special characters and mascots like Che'lu', the official mascot for the Guam Rail. Each registered young runner will receive a Ko'ko' kids tee, an event bag and a Ko'ko' Kids finisher's medal! October 28th and 29th is just around the corner but there is still time to sign up for the Guam Ko’ko’ races or kids run.
